What's New for the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Now in its fourth generation of production, the Jeep Grand Cherokee debuts the off-road-optimized Trailhawk trim for the 2017 model year. The top-of-the-line Summit trim is slightly revised in styling and gets additional interior features that boost its luxury profile. A supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 engine, which generates 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, debuts for the performance-oriented SRT Hellcat variant. And there are a couple of new available safety features, such as lane departure warning and self-parking.

The base-level engine on the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the 3.6-literPentastarV6, which produces 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. However, depending on the variant you go with, you can opt for the more economical 3.0-liter diesel V6 engine, which has an output of 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. And a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine, which generates 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, is exclusive to the SRT trim. Each engine is linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission. There are two drivetrain choices: rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, with the option of going for a two-speed transfer case or an electronic limited slip differential on the latter. Two rows of seats in a cabin that yields 105.4 cubic feet of passenger space is enough for up to five occupants. At the base level, the 2017 Grand Cherokee has comfort and convenience features like Bluetooth hands-free phone operation and audio streaming, controls mounted on the steering wheel for easier access to certain functions, remote keyless entry for access with the press of your key fob, remote vehicle start to ignite the engine from outside the SUV, and a six-speaker stereo system that includes a 5-inch touchscreen and a flash memory card slot.

Upper-level trims are more likely to have additions or improvements like an 8.4-inch touchscreen, a single-disc CD player, a navigation system, a garage-door opener, an auto-dimming rearview mirror for counteracting lights behind you, and a dual-pane power panoramic moon-roof. The Grand Cherokee’s airbag system consists of a driver’s knee airbag, a pair of front impact airbags for the driver and front passenger, dual front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and two front and two rear side curtain airbags installed on the roof. Also standard on the SUV are electronic vehicle stability to keep you on your intended driving path, all-wheel traction control for preventing skidding, hill start assist for preventing you from rolling backwards when driving from a stopped position on a hill, hill descent control for safe driving down a hill, and anti-lock disc brakes for keeping stopping distances short and without the wheels locking up. Upper-level safety additions include brake assist, blind spot monitoring, rear park assist, and adaptive cruise control.
